GS1 Netherlands and Stack&Track, an online platform for packaging management, are launching a pilot to increase efficiency, transparency and sustainability in the international logistics sector. The companies will collaborate by using GS1 Netherlands' GLN register for locations within Stack&Track's digital platform. This will allow companies to identify and manage the flow of returnable packaging (RTIs) based on receiving and shipping locations.

An automatic link (API) between the GLN register and the Stack&Track platform will allow Stack&Track users to select trading partners from the GLN register. This location database is part of the global GS1 Global Registry Platform (GRP) and provides up-to-date and reliable information on companies, locations and their interrelationships. Thus, all organisations and locations on the Stack&Track platform use the same information. This ensures a simple and reliable data exchange of higher quality.

Making (inter)national packaging chains more sustainable

"We believe in the use of harmonised location data within our platform and the collaboration with GS1 Netherlands as an international and not-for-profit, network and knowledge organisation," Guido de Neve, sales manager of Stack&Track said of the collaboration. "We expect the use of correct data to support more efficient logistics movement and thus cost savings and CO2 reduction."

"By using a unique identification of locations and organisations with the GS1 Global Location Number (GLN), time-consuming and error-prone manual registration and administration of company and location data is no longer necessary. In addition, using the GLN register with verified master data improves data quality." adds Tom Quets, sector lead within GS1 Netherlands.

Expansion to more countries

The pilot in the Netherlands is planned for the first quarter of 2024 and will then be extended to Belgium, Germany, Spain, the UK and France. On 9 February 2024, both parties will present their story during the Logistics Hub at Fruitlogistica, the world's leading trade fair for the fresh fruit industry.
