The Netherlands has a lot of
warehouses and distribution centres, which in turn provides us with a lot of employment
employment. There are thousands of people working in these centres. But where
people work, accidents happen.

We put some facts about these common
accidents for you. Some measurements are based on the US, but comparable
to the Netherlands.

  • Some 15 per cent of all fatal accidents in the
    workplace are caused by falls.
  • Most accidents in the warehouse happen at docks, on the forklift truck and on the conveyor belt.
  • There are 1,700 forklift accidents in the US every year. That
is therefore one accident every five hours.
  • Every year in the Netherlands, 126 people are injured in forklift accidents. Many accidents
are caused by a collision with a pedestrian.
  • In the US, as many as 100 deaths occur every year due to forklift accidents.

How much does an injured worker cost a company? On average, a
company spends 35,000 euros after an accident in the warehouse. These are only
the direct costs, so this does not include, for example, the loss of turnover when
an employee breaks down.

Reason enough for employers
to focus on safety in the warehouse. Read here how you can
achieve that.
