Thuiswinkel.org calls on webshops to extend their return period to thirty days. This will give consumers as well as webshops and carriers peace of mind. Many carriers would have indicated that they would benefit from an extended return period.

A return period of fourteen days is currently not desirable, Thuiswinkel.org argues. "For many people, online shopping is currently the safest way to get products to (over)live and work at home. Consumers are therefore largely dependent on online shops in the Netherlands, because they cannot or do not want to go outside."

Returning a parcel within 14 days can then become difficult. To remove this barrier for consumers, the advocacy association is calling on webshops to temporarily extend the withdrawal period to at least 30 days with immediate effect.

This benefits not only consumers, but also the market and carriers. "Carriers indicate that they can handle the sharp increase in online orders for the time being, but also let it be known that they would greatly benefit from an extended return period. If there is more time to return parcels, the pressure will be reduced in the coming weeks," said Wijnand Jongen, director of Thuiswinkel.org.
