Logistics service provider CB is building a new warehouse in Culemborg. The 33-metre-high building will be covered with 2260 solar panels, good to provide 156 households with renewable energy.
The new warehouse is 33 metres high, 100 metres long and 30 metres wide and will accommodate 2260 solar panels. The new warehouse can be supplied fully automatically, with no hands involved. Order picking is done according to the 'goods-to-man' principle - goods come to the employees. According to CB, this system fits seamlessly with developments in the market; inventories and orders are smaller in size and, at the same time, ordering and restocking are more frequent. CB expects to commission the warehouse in April 2021.
Solar panels on new building
"We have been looking at opportunities to generate our own sustainable energy for some time," says Janet Verdonk, facilities manager at CB, about the new location. At CB's existing premises, the logistics provider says it was not possible to generate our own sustainable energy without major investments in the construction. "At the new warehouse, we took into account the desire to install solar panels in the construction from the very first plans." CB now has subsidy applications pending with the European Commission and as part of Stimulating Sustainable Energy Transition. Discussions are ongoing with the municipality of Culemborg and the Rivierenland environmental service about the details.
The logistics service provider hopes to install the solar panels this autumn. Completion of the building is scheduled for April 2021.
