DPD is going to deliver with drones in France. It has received permission to do so from the French aviation authorities.
This will be a 15-kilometre regular delivery route, flying back and forth between the southern French town of Saint-Maximin-La-Sainte-Beaume and Pourrières every week. The drone should enable delivery to businesses that are difficult to reach.
The drones have a range of up to 20 kilometres and can fly at 30 kilometres per hour. The drone is capable of carrying parcels of up to three kilos. The small plane has been tested by DPD for the past two years and is now said to be capable of carrying out standard deliveries.
DPD will use a terminal for the drone's departure and landing. Here the loading of the drone and the final delivery of the parcel will be taken care of.
