The slot coordinator at Schiphol has decided to issue additional slots for cargo flights with immediate effect. Evofenedex and Air Cargo pleaded for that measure in recent days.
Due to the corona virus, many passenger flights have been cancelled. It was decided that the rules for giving away slots will be adjusted until 6 June, leaving room for additional cargo flights to take place at Schiphol.
"Cargo flights are indispensable in the fight against the corona virus: from microscopes to mouth caps and medicines, everything is currently being flown to get medical and other crucial goods to their destinations as quickly as possible. These flights are therefore essential in the shipment of urgent goods. Allowing more cargo flights will create more space to support crucial business processes," said Rogier Spoel, policy advisor on air and sea freight at evofenedex.
