The winners of the Dutch Logistics Thesis Award are known. During the vLm annual conference, Isabelle van Schilt of TU Delft went home with the prize for the best bachelor thesis. André Snoeck of TU Eindhoven won the prize for the best master's thesis.
The winners were chosen after a short presentation on their thesis and a robust questionnaire by the four-headed jury, led by Jack van der Veen.
Best Bachelor Thesis in Logistics
Former student Isabelle van Schilt left nominees Jack Bunnik (Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences) and Manja Kleter (Eindhoven University of Technology) behind. The three finalists made it tough for the judges. "It was a hot battle. The judges debated among themselves for a long time," Van der Veen said. Van Schilt wrote her thesis at Aircrete Europe Mexico, with the topic 'PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENT - A research that analyses the bottlenecks and possibilities to improve the production flow'. In it, she investigated the possibilities for optimising the production of gas concrete blocks, partly by solving bone leaks in the production process. The 3D simulation models Van Schilt developed are used as sales support at the company where she graduated. The jury praised her thesis for its clear recommendations for Aircrete Europe Mexico, thorough analysis and good fieldwork.
Best Master's Thesis in Logistics
André Snoeck of TU Eindhoven won the prize for his thesis 'A stochastic program to evaluate disruption mitigation investments in the supply chain'; a thesis full of mathematical models to prevent disruptions in the supply chain. He won from finalists Bon Bakermans (TU Delft) and Cas Luijten (Tilburg University) . According to the jury, the candidates knew how to present their theses fantastically. "Especially because sometimes the subject matter was really tough. The mathematics spattered off," the jury said. Snoeck is currently studying at MIT, one of the most prestigious technical universities in the world. He won the award partly for his "excellently written" thesis. "This thesis makes an excellent contribution to the field and contains excellent data-driven analysis and the piece of innovation we like to see," he said.
