Jumbo is stepping up cooperation with flash delivery company Gorillas. The supermarket chain already had groceries delivered by the company, but is now also taking a stake in Gorillas.

Mississippi Ventures, the investment fund of Jumbo family Van Eerd, is taking the stake in the flash delivery company. Financial details were not disclosed.

"At Jumbo, we see a lot of potential in instant delivery, which will allow us to tap into new customer groups in major cities," Jumbo CFO Ton van Veen said of the partnership. "Further expansion of our partnership, including offering Gorillas' fast ordering service through our own online channels, is currently being worked out together with Gorillas. Our independent entrepreneurs are also involved in this process." Co-locations in inner cities are being considered. Gorillas in particular is reaping the benefits of this, as many municipalities have imposed a temporary ban on new darkstores, from which flash delivery companies deliver.

The two companies joined forces in January. Since then, Gorillas has been delivering groceries for Jumbo customers in the Netherlands and Flanders. They can place an order via Jumbo's app and website. The supermarket chain supplies a large part of its range to the flash delivery service.
