Linde Material Handling is launching an interactive warning vest. The vest is to give pedestrians in warehouses timely warning of approaching lift or warehouse trucks.
The vest is based on the Linde Safety Guard assistance system introduced last year, which accurately transmits Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio signals, and can 'see' through walls and doors. This allows drivers to see on their vehicle from which direction one or more people are approaching. At the same time, pedestrians get to see, feel and hear via their warning vest that a truck is approaching.
Integrated assistance system
Linde Material Handling used to work with a small mobile device that had to be clipped onto the pedestrian's clothing. That device is now integrated into the safety vest. Benjamin Reis, manager Safety Sales at Linde Material Handling: "When you put on the vest, you automatically carry the assistance system with you."
LED strips
The garment is equipped with LED strips on the front and back, which light up continuously at 40 per cent of rated power. If there is danger from an approaching vehicle, the LED strips switch to a flashing mode and their brightness is increased to 100 per cent of rated power. "This is almost impossible to miss and provides very accurate safety," Reis said.
