Alliance the Logistics Alliance has drawn up a plan to make transport and storage of goods more competitive, safe and sustainable. Eighteen parties from logistics handed over their 'Vision Trade and Logistics in 2040' to minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management) today.
The Logistics Alliance consists of 18 parties from the business community, industry associations and infrastructure managers. The Alliance's vision for 2040 is that the supply, removal and delivery of goods will be 'state of the art' green, safe, with consideration for people and affordable. "With concrete actions in our logistics system, we want to work together with the government in the coming years to bring an even nicer and safer Netherlands closer," said Steven Lak, chairman of the Logistics Alliance.
Logistics important for prosperity
According to Lak, Dutch citizens do not give enough thought to the importance of goods transport for prosperity. "The supply and removal of goods is all around us and is also coming closer and closer to home. We like to order clothes, appliances, garden equipment and food items from home and want them delivered on time and in one piece."
Cleaner, quieter, more challenging
The parties therefore see a social need for deliveries to take place with low-emission and quieter ships, planes, trains and trucks. Lak: "We are going to work very hard in the coming years on cleaner and quieter transport of goods at home and abroad. We are going to make the transport and storage of products even safer. And last but not least, we also want to keep working in logistics jobs really challenging."
Clout
Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen on handing over the document: "Our logistics landscape is essential to keep the Netherlands on the world map as a trading country. It is therefore good that the business community is joining hands to make the national and international storage and transport of goods safer, cleaner and more efficient in the coming years. The Logistics Alliance has serious clout to start making that difference business-wide."
