DHL parcel deliverers will no longer be burdened with overweight parcels as of 1 January. The new collective agreement stipulates that DHL Parcel e-Commerce will not accept parcels heavier than 23 kilograms.
The parcel carrier's new collective labour agreement takes effect from 1 January 2020 and runs for three years, reports CNV Vakmensen. "Parcels have been getting bigger and heavier in recent years," says negotiator Tjitze van Rijssel. "I hear stories about 30-kilo bags of animal feed. That's not meant to be, that's no fun on your own. We are now putting a limit on that: 23 kilos, no more. We want to include this in the health and safety catalogue for the transport and logistics sector. Then it will apply equally to all couriers."
Wages have also been agreed, with parcel deliverers getting a total 16.25 per cent increase over the next three years. The first wage increase of 7.7 per cent will take effect on 1 January next. Office and warehouse workers will get a total wage increase of 9.5 per cent over the next three years.
