The Port of Rotterdam Authority will abandon a distribution centre on Landtong Rozenburg. In doing so, it meets objections from residents. More than a thousand people campaigned against the arrival of the DC.

In a press release, the Port Authority announced that no distribution activities will take place on the Landtong, a peninsula between the Caland Canal and the Nieuwe Waterweg. "The concerns expressed by the residents of Rozenburg -as well as a number of other considerations- have been taken into account in this decision," the Port Authority writes.

Opponents protested against the arrival of a DC on the Landtongue. It would be disastrous for nature. According to residents, the area is one of the few pieces of greenery in Rozenburg.

However, the Port Authority is not abandoning the area completely. It still intends to develop the available land on the Landtongue within the stipulated framework of the zoning plan. "When first ideas on this are known, this will be discussed with those directly affected."
