Parcel delivery company Parcify is coming to the Netherlands. The startup, which
delivers parcels ordered online where and when the customer wants them, is aiming to be
deliver in Amsterdam this year. First customer in the Netherlands is bol.com, where
Parcify is currently running a pilot project with in Belgium.
A common problem in e-commerce is that consumers
are not at home when a parcel is delivered. The Belgian startup wants to
solve the problem of that closed door by delivering parcels when and where
when the end customer wants it. Via the Parcify app, consumers indicate when
he wants to receive the parcel. The mobile application tracks where the
consumer is at that moment, so the courier can ride to the consumer's location by bicycle
of the consumer.
How can the startup do that efficiently, without having to
having to drive all over the city? "We are not a butler service. So we try to
predict as best we can where the customer will be at that moment," says Chief Operating Officer
Christophe van Olmen on this during the Logistics & Distribution trade fair. The
app tracks the location of its customers for this purpose. "We try to collect as much
relevant information about the customer as possible. If a person is every
morning is at a certain location around 8 o'clock, then chances are that he or
she lives at that location. When we receive a parcel from an online shop,
we store it in a strategic location in the city. We use
space at a retailer or a laundromat, for example." In Antwerp,
Parcify currently works with five such locations. From
that spot the last mile. "This makes the last mile as short as possible. This
usually varies from 200 metres to two kilometres." The consumer can track the
parcel via the app and chat with the courier in the meantime.
The company, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, is now
only active in Antwerp and Brussels, but is likely to deliver its
first parcels in Amsterdam before the end of the year. The largest online shop Parcify works with is
bol.com. Consumers who want their parcels delivered via Parcify pay
5 euros for this.
