Coming Logistica, LogistiekProfs organises own theatre with knowledge sessions. For four days, visitors to the exhibition can visit hall 10 for seminars on a wide range of topics. Which lectures are really not to be missed? Tips from the editors!
Tuesday, 10 November
12:45 - 13:15 - 4PP? Fourth Party Packaging
During the first day of the fair, Johan Faes, CEO Faesgroep kicks off with a lecture on packaging in logistics. We all know the 4PL; a control tower or chain management. But what about packaging? Who is integrally responsible for packaging within a complex supply chain? Very often no one. Faesgroep therefore introduces the term Fourth Party Packaging.
Would you like to attend this lecture but are not at the fair on Tuesday? Johan Faes will also give the same lecture on Wednesday between 14:15 and 14:45
13:30 - 14:00 - From logistics to supply chain management, of course, but how?
Immediately afterwards, you can join a lecture by Ing Bastiaan vd List and Maarten Snijders MSc, BLMC. They will highlight the difference between logistics management and supply chain management. Many companies are switching to supply chain management, but there are big challenges involved. What challenges do you face when you want to transform from logistics to supply chain management?
Wednesday, 11 November
12:00 - 12:30 - The impact of 3D printing on logistics - mouse or elephant?
UPS is setting up its own print centre with a hundred 3D printers, TNT is also going with printers. People worldwide are digitally collaborating to make a prosthesis that rolls out of the printer on the spot in Africa, and in China 10 houses were 3D printed in one day. So what is the state of 3D printing? And how does it relate to big data and robotisation? Alexander Hermanss of INDICIA will tell you during this lecture.
12:45 - 13:15 - Smart solutions for the rapidly developing e-commerce landscape
As an (r)etailer or manufacturer, how can you get your products to consumers? What service do consumers expect? How has this changed over the years? What are the consequences of the choices you make as a company? What logistical challenges are involved in choosing specific sales channels? Questions like these will be addressed during the interactive lecture by Jorg Megens, Business Innovator at DocData. A lecture of interest to you if you:
- your company is looking for new ways to market your products.
- do not have a clear picture of customer requirements or market characteristics in the e-commerce world.
- are looking for inspiration for next strategic steps.
- want to find out what smart solutions have been devised by Docdata and others for the challenges involved in the changing e-commerce landscape.
- you are a bit done with all the hardcore logistics stories and want to spend some time on a chair with some interesting people around you.
This lecture will also be held on Friday from 13:30 to 14:00.
Thursday 12 November
11:15 - 11.45 - Help! My stock has to go down 10%!
One of the most common KPIs that is actively managed is the level of inventory value. This often seems too high and needs to be reduced, while at the same time an increased customer service is demanded.
Overall reductions often turn out to be too rigorous: they do not take into account the existence of internal fluctuations in demand patterns between departments and fluctuations in the chain. So look for a mechanism that ensures inventory 'moves with' market demand and is aligned with delivery times and variations in demand patterns.
During an interactive workshop session, Jan Kraaijeveld, expert in the field of Inventory Optimisation, will elaborate on the possibilities in meeting needs: increasing available working capital as well as improved product availability - and therefore increased service towards the customer.
Friday 13 November
11:15 - 11:45 - Getting started with lean: more than tools and techniques
During this lecture, Hans Groen will give an insight into the world of Lean. According to Groen, Lean is more than tools and techniques. It is above all a philosophy. A journey that revolves around the people behind the processes. From Thinking Differently, to Doing Differently'.
Hans Groen will give you insight into how consultants look at your company during the lecture. What stands out, what does a consultant marvel at. Getting Started with Lean is about behavioural change in your people but especially in yourself. However difficult it may sometimes be. Implement not tools but a way of thinking.
12:45 - 13:15 - Innovation: think big, start small
Innovation is often seen as 'scary', money-consuming and nowadays mainly focused on completely new technological developments. Robert van der Waal, director of Logistics Operations at Samsung, thinks differently. In an interactive session, he shows how companies can very easily start innovating, especially in logistics. He gives a glimpse behind the scenes at Samsung, but also answers questions such as: what percentage of the top 25 innovative companies owes this ranking to completely new technology? And what exactly makes the remaining companies innovative?
14:30 - 15:30 - Debate: Insourcing versus Outsourcing
The LogistiekProfs theatre will conclude on Friday with a debate! Outsourcing transport and warehousing has now become commonplace in logistics. Nevertheless, some companies choose the opposite route and decide to do logistics themselves again. So time for a good debate during Logistica on insourcing or outsourcing of logistics.
The debate will be led by journalist Marcel te Lindert. Participants in the debate are Hans Groen, supply chain & performance management consultant, and Robert van der Waal, director of logistics operations at Samsung Electronics. Groen is one of LogistiekProfs' knowledge pros and recently wrote a well-read blog on outsourcing as supply chain strategy. Van der Waal made a name for himself with his contrarian solution to opt for insourcing in logistics. Both participants will give their views on insourcing versus outsourcing and discuss this with each other and with the audience.
