From today, Albert Heijn will deliver with a delivery robot in Eindhoven. For a fortnight, students from the High Tech Campus will have their online orders delivered by a robot.
For the pilot, which lasts until 26 July, Albert Heijn has developed a special app. Students from the campus can use it to place an order at the local AH to go. The robot then takes care of the delivery. The customer has to take the groceries from the robot himself.
The condition is that the customer is on campus. In fact, the robot uses a virtual map of the campus to bring the order to the customer. Sensors ensure that the robot avoids obstacles.
The robot was developed by TeleRetail and costs between 50,000 and 100,000 euros. Albert Heijn has no plans for a further rollout yet, a spokesperson told AD. "It is really a test, so we will see afterwards whether it will be seen on the streets."
