Albert Heijn wants to deliver more groceries at home in Belgium. The supermarket chain is doubling its home delivery capacity from 400,000 to 800,000 households.
Since this week, Albert Heijn also delivers to the door in Ghent, Leuvel, Aalst, the Brabant Kempen and the outskirts of Brussels. That's 59 extra postcodes. The wholesale grocer rolled out the 'Albert Heijn Aan Huis' home delivery service in the Antwerp region in mid-2020. The formula is proving popular: delivery slots invariably fill up every week.
According to Raf van den Heuvel, general manager of Albert Heijn Belgium, Fleming has acquired a taste for online grocery delivery. "We are happy to satisfy that hunger with a strong home delivery service."
Customers can place an order on AH.be or in the app from an amount of 50 euros, with delivery costs of 5 euros. Orders are collected in Albert Heijn's Home Shopping Centre in Eindhoven. From there, groceries go to Belgian customers via hubs in Turnhout and Boom.
Albert Heijn says it also wants to open new shops in Belgium. In not too long, the counter should reach 100 shops.
