Amazon.nl is officially up and running. Since this morning, Amazon sells 100 million products on its Dutch website. Previously, Dutch consumers could already visit Amazon, only they were redirected to the German website.

The platform features Dutch brands such as Philips, Rituals and Hunkemöller, as well as international brands such as Samsung, Bose, Mattel, Lego and Bosch. " With Amazon.nl we give what our Dutch customers have asked us for: the ability to buy from a Dutch-speaking shop, with access to Amazon's local and international product range and reliable sellers, coupled with fast delivery," said Alex Ootes, Vice President EU Expansion at Amazon.

Free shipping over 20 euros

Customers get their products ordered online delivered to their home the next day. Amazon ships orders over 20 euros for free. Consumers who do not want to pay shipping costs can join subscription service Prime for 2.99 euros a month.

Amazon works in the Netherlands with, among others, delivery service Red je Pakketje, which delivered the first parcel for the e-tailer today.

Delivery from Germany

Amazon does not yet have a distribution centre in the Netherlands. For now, it delivers orders from German distribution centres, close to the Dutch border. For instance, it is currently building a logistics centre in Emden, a German port city near the border with Groningen, and last year it opened a warehouse in Mönchengladbach, twenty kilometres from the Netherlands.
