Farmers are not allowed to block supermarket distribution centres during their planned protests on Wednesday. The judge ruled that in summary proceedings this morning. Action group Farmers Defence Force (FDF) is calling on farmers not to protest tomorrow.

The group wanted to stage action at about 45 distribution centres of supermarkets such as Jumbo, Albert Heijn, ALDI and Lidl tomorrow to force a higher price for their products. The Centraal Bureau Levensmiddelenhandel (CBL), which represents the interests of the supermarket sector, feared that the protests would lead to stock shortages in shops. The CBL therefore initiated summary proceedings.

The summary proceedings judge ruled that some actions are allowed, but did not give the green light for blocking distribution centres. The consequences would be too great, not only for supermarkets but also for care institutions, for example.

FDF wants to appeal against the ruling. According to the court in Leeuwarden, this cannot be done before next Wednesday. The action group called on farmers on Facebook to postpone the protests altogether then.
