A major fire broke out in Jumbo's distribution centre in Raalte on Saturday. Online customers of the mass retailer will therefore have to wait longer for their groceries.

Jumbo has been operating in the building on Almelosestraat in Raalte since 2018. Here, it packs and ships groceries to customers from Overijssel, Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland. The fire started on Saturday morning in the office complex on the first floor. Several fire engines rushed out to extinguish the fire.

Very large fire

Fifteen minutes after it started, the Safety Region issued the notification 'very large fire'. That would not so much refer to the size of the fire, but mainly to its complexity, the Stentor knows. It is, after all, an old and large building.

The employees present were evacuated shortly after the fire broke out. No one was injured. Little is yet known about the exact damage. Jumbo did announce this weekend that customers would probably not receive their orders on Saturday and Sunday.

Distribution centre Albert Heijn

Last month, Albert Heijn also suffered from a fire in its Tilburg distribution centre. The fire started in the cabin of a truck and then spread to the adjacent building. As many as 120 Albert Heijn stores struggled with empty shelves the week after the fire.
