That innovation does not always have to be about robots or artificial intelligence, Dachser proves. The German logistics provider with ten branches in the Netherlands has developed a new roll container for clothes. With the Retail Box, it is possible to deliver both hanging and lying clothes intact, clean and odour-free to clothing shops across Europe. As the demand for smaller deliveries is increasing, the Retail Box is available with the size of both a whole and a half euro pallet.
The Retail Box is an improved version of the Roll&GOH, the roll container that Dachser introduced five years ago. Hanging clothes can be attached to the top of the 1.90-metre-high load carrier, while lying clothes can be placed in bins underneath. The updated design is also suitable for stocking other shops, for example in the field of cosmetics or electronics. When the roller container is empty, it can be easily dismantled and folded.
Dachser has also optimised the design in terms of safety and sustainability. The roll container is now all metal and fully enclosed. It also offers the option of using a seal or lock to further secure the contents. In some cases, this value-added transport solution makes it possible to dispense with expensive protective packaging. According to an initial estimate, using the Retail Box with an expected product life cycle of at least 150 transport trips can save more than 4,000 kilos of packaging material.
"Together with our manufacturer, we developed and tested the new Retail Box models in close cooperation with our customers. Being familiar with the daily activities in the shop helps enormously to tailor the transport product as closely as possible to the needs of retailers," says Uwe Riechel, head of department at Dachser Fashion Logistics.
