Trade shows ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next at Royal Jaarbeurs from 5 to 7 November 2024
Utrecht, 4 October 2024 - In the run-up to the ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next trade shows, zero emission city logistics is high on the agenda. From 2025, at least 25 municipalities in the Netherlands will introduce zero emission zones for city logistics. Corien den Ouden, exhibition manager: "This topic is crucial for the future of city distribution and is central to our logistics trade shows. Experts, such as renowned urban logistics lecturer Walther Ploos van Amstel and policymakers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, discuss the opportunities and challenges for both entrepreneurs and residents during the fairs." ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next will take place from 5 to 7 November 2024 at Royal Jaarbeurs.
Urgency: time of frontrunners is over
The introduction of zero emission zones in cities means that only zero-emission vehicles, such as electric trucks and cargo bikes, will have access to these zones. Walther Ploos van Amstel: "It has been known for years that the logistics sector needs to switch to sustainable mobility. Reducing emissions and optimising energy consumption can yield long-term cost savings and are important for both the environment and the future of the sector. However, entrepreneurs are often unaware of the potential consequences of introducing zero emission zones. Some entrepreneurs bury their heads in the sand. The time of frontrunners in this field is really over now. Everyone needs to get on board."
Biggest concern: entrepreneurs sometimes think too simply
Lecturer Walther Ploos van Amstel will discuss the need for smart urban planning, the integration of electric vehicles and hydrogen technology, and the possibilities of zero-emission 'last-mile' logistics during the trade shows. "The city of the future is a city without CO2 emissions. The technology is there, now we need to accelerate the implementation and that is what all entrepreneurs in many inner cities in the Netherlands need to do. My biggest concern is that many entrepreneurs sometimes think too simply. We are now discovering that the implementation of zero emission zones is much more complicated. Many entrepreneurs only think about the vehicle and not, for example, about the charging infrastructure, financing, drivers and outsourcing a logistics concept," said Walther Ploos van Amstel.
To realise transition and innovation, meeting physically is a crucial start
Walther Ploos van Amstel argues for a joint effort by companies, governments and consumers. "The government has a regulatory role in this and must stimulate, facilitate, experiment and coordinate. Providing good traffic data is essential here." Tobia Potters, senior advisor Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management: "The ministry is working towards competitive, safe, efficient resilient, sustainable multimodal freight transport. Digitalisation, stronger digital cooperation in logistics chains is essential for this. This starts with cooperation between the responsible parties: us as the government, you as the business community. At the fair, we would like to enter into a dialogue with entrepreneurs on how to shape this cooperation. We present stories with which we hope to inspire entrepreneurs and where we also concretely invite them to cooperate on specific projects. For realising innovation, physical meetings are a crucial start. This is why we facilitate a meeting place at ICT&Logistics: the "Network Foyer IenW & Friends" where we like to listen to experiences. How do people think about the digital transition? What is the next step?"
About ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next
From 5 to 7 November 2024, the ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next trade shows will take place at Royal Jaarbeurs. Thousands of decision-makers, experts, keynotes and influencers will come together to share knowledge and find concrete solutions to the issues of today and tomorrow. "The future starts here!" The trade fairs take place simultaneously; digitalisation, robotisation and data-driven are the trends in (intra) logistics.
