H&M is to deliver online orders by bicycle in the Netherlands. The clothing chain has joined forces with Fietskoeriers.nl to do so.

The Netherlands is the first country where H&M delivers by bike. The new service applies to next-day delivery and costs the same as regular delivery options.

The couriers will deliver in the evening, between 6 pm and 10 pm. As many people are at home around that time, H&M and Fietskoeriers.nl expect 98 percent of the first delivery attempts to succeed.

Fietskoeiers.nl cycles in 33 cities for companies such as Guturumshop and Dille & Kamille. The company works with 19 local partners that provide work for some 600 bicycle couriers. Turnover of Fietskoeriers.nl is on the rise. In three years, the company grew from zero to one million parcels, director Nick Vreeswijk stated in an earlier interview with LogistiekProfs. In fact, the company's turnover has been on the rise for years. "We started with B2C deliveries for online shops, but are now increasingly profiling ourselves as a first and last mile carrier, working with hubs on the outskirts of cities. That ties in with our initial goal of making cities cleaner."
