Online retailer AHA is going to deliver with drones in Iceland. This is not a trial; drone delivery is offered by AHA as a standard option.

Delivery with drones is not new. Major retailers, tech and courier companies have been experimenting with the technology for some time. For now, however, they remained experiments. Now Iceland's largest online retailer is going to use the technology as a standard delivery option. It is the first time drones have been deployed in this way in an urban environment.

Capital city Reykjavik has given the green light for the technology. On online marketplace AHA, retailers and restaurants offer products and meals. Due to the wide river that divides Reykjavik into two parts, delivery there is not always efficient. This certainly applies to hot meals. As early as 2014, AHA therefore explored the possibility of drone delivery. By using the autonomous aircraft, hot food can still be delivered. The drones could deliver an order within four minutes, with manufacturer Flytrex claiming that AHA cuts its delivery costs by 60 per cent as a result.
