Jumbo has opened its eleventh logistics hub in Deventer. From the new location, the supermarket chain can serve additional households in Overijssel and Gelderland.

Online orders will be picked at the e-fulfilment centre in Raalte and sent to the new hub in Deventer, after which they will be taken to customers in the region by around 40 buses. The supermarket chain says it is still looking for delivery staff to deliver groceries to customers' homes.

Better planning of trips

The opening of the hub allows Jumbo to offer additional delivery slots, which are also shorter than was previously the case with delivery from shops. "With a central home delivery hub, capacity can be used even better and journeys can be planned better," says Karel de Jong, director of Supply Chain at Jumbo. "This also means fewer kilometres are made than before, which has a favourable effect on our CO2 emissions."

Five new hubs

Jumbo currently has hubs in Amsterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch (at the e-fulfilment centre, called 'EFC' by Jumbo), Middelburg, Utrecht, Breda, Heerhugowaard, Bemmel, Hengelo and Groningen. In early 2021, a new EFC was opened in Bleiswijk, which also functions as a hub, and the opening in Deventer will be followed by five new hubs in different locations later this year.
