Nunner Logistics is realising Europe's most powerful solar roof at Greenport Venlo, in its own words. The 110,000 square metre warehouse, in which Nunner handles logistics for Lidl, will be completely covered with solar panels.
The distribution centre in Venlo houses the logistics operation of Lidl's webshop. With an area of 110,000 square metres, the roof will soon provide a power output of 13.1 megawatts. According to Nunner Logistics, this is the highest power provided by a single roof in Europe, enough to supply 4,500 households with electricity.
Energy-positive
Ecorus will be responsible for the investment and operation, and the solar roof should be in use by mid-2020. The warehouse will then not be energy-neutral, but energy-positive; even if Nunner makes maximum use of the warehouse, the solar panels will supply more energy than is needed for its own use. What remains will be supplied by Ecorus to the electricity grid.
