Maintaining our position as a top logistics region requires a focus on personnel. After all, without the right talent no growth in the sector. Samsung, which in addition to being a large shipper in electronics has also been a logistics service provider for several years, is also experiencing this. With a focus on digitalisation and the right deployment of personnel, this giant is preparing itself for the logistics sector of tomorrow.

A changing supply chain is accompanied by changes on the shop floor. The digitising playing field has a direct impact on Samsung's employees, and within the company it is therefore actively working on the match between men and machine. Google Glasses and Samsung's own Samsung Smart Watch are driving productivity gains in the logistics operations of the world's largest consumer electronics company. "A great example where operations and staff are positively facing an increase in capabilities due to the digital transition we are in," said Diederik Brand, Director HR EMEIA Samsung SDS. He calls staff development a continuous top priority.

Agile, scrum and sustainable employability

Within the war for talent, Samsung sees the agile workplace and scrum teams as part of the personnel (r)evolution of the coming years. From within the sector, which is struggling with an overheated labour market, this is actively endorsed. Willem de Vries, Director of the Sector Institute Transport and Logistics, also mentions sustainable employability as one of the spearheads of the coming years. With various recruitment campaigns, STL focuses on the match between personnel and organisation within the transport and logistics sector.

Cooperation with educational institutions

Samsung goes further and tackles the problem at the source. Various collaborations with colleges and universities are looking for the right way to mould tomorrow's employee. Because with the changing, digital sector, the profile of our employee of the future is also changing.

Logistics at Work

Diederik Brand and Willem de Vries explain how they address the personnel issue of today - but especially that of tomorrow - at Logistics at Work.
