Parcel delivery should be done electrically as much as possible in the future. Says Stientje van Veldhoven, state secretary for infrastructure and water management.
In an interview with Thuiswinkel.org, Van Veldhoven explains that the e-commerce sector is an important industry to make sustainable now that the streets are filled with delivery vans. "It is important that we make sure that parcel delivery is done electrically as much as possible in the future. In addition, we can relieve congested streets through more efficient transport and good city logistics."
Measures companies
The state secretary expects e-commerce companies to already start working on sustainable measures themselves, for instance by recycling or using reusable packaging. In addition, electric or bicycle delivery in the city can save CO2. "Furthermore, cooperation between delivery companies in logistics is crucial to transport parcels as efficiently as possible."
Zero-emission zones
City hubs can also provide relief. Van Veldhoven therefore hopes that municipalities and transport companies will take this up more. She stresses that municipalities should clarify as soon as possible whether they want to establish a zero-emission zone in the city, so that companies can prepare for it.
