The usefulness of ICT innovations in transport

The logistics process includes everything from loading to unloading and all the steps in between. ICT and innovations in this area play a distinctive role in this. This applies to normal transports, but especially to special transports. Exceptional transport involves just that little bit more than standard transport. The cargo is different; larger, heavier or of a different shape. ICT innovations certainly come in handy then. Read on to find out why.

For drivers: bypassing blockades quickly and efficiently

Every type of transport, including special transport, is preceded by detailed planning. This means that routes are chosen that do not create bottlenecks during transport. If those bottlenecks are insurmountable in order to reach the final destination, the transport is intensively guided by the transporter or stumbling blocks are even temporarily removed.

However, good route planning does not mean that there will never be accidents with traffic jams or bad weather. With the latest route systems and notifications, drivers (with or without guidance on the road) are always aware of the state of affairs on the road. This allows them to still meet deadlines or at least minimise delays.

For customers: GPS for live tracking

At Van der Vlist - an experienced haulier in special transport - they take ICT capabilities one step further. Because have you outsourced your transport with them? Then you get a unique code to track your own transport via GPS.

Why is this useful? Special transports are special for a reason. Their size, shape or weight make them more difficult to transport and therefore often more expensive. Then you would like to keep a finger on the pulse during transport and be able to track live where your valuable transport is.

At the same time, it is also useful to contact the receiving location or party by the time of arrival. This way, you are not only involved, but additional instructions can also be given at the moment suprême if necessary.

In short

We all know how fast ICT changes if we just look at our own home or workplace. For the logistics and transport industry in the Netherlands, but also within Europe or worldwide, IT and ICT innovation play at least as big a role. And then route planning and live tracking of your cargo are just two examples!
