As of 1 July 2015, forklift drivers must in many cases hold a T licence. The licence is required to drive trucks that are wider than 130 centimetres and are on public roads.
A relatively high number of accidents
The Netherlands is one of the last European countries to make a T driving licence compulsory for drivers. At present, there are still many accidents involving agricultural vehicles and other low-speed vehicles. Making a T driving licence compulsory is intended to change this.
No T driving licence required for warehouse trucks
It is striking that a T driving licence is not required for forklift trucks that are less than 130 centimetres wide and are used exclusively within the warehouse, even though many accidents occur in warehouses too. However, the training requirement laid down in the Working Conditions Act remains in force for this group of drivers.
