The market for logistics robots will be worth around $31.3 billion by 2020. That's a 10.1 per cent increase from today, writes Emerce based on research by London-based WinterGreen Research.
Rapidly evolving
Robots are already being used extensively in warehouses. For example, Amazon made the news a month ago for deploying thousands of Kiva robots during the festive season. In addition, work is now well under way on developing a flying robot to assess stock levels in the warehouse.
Robots are much more productive
And these developments are hardly surprising. Robots are often faster than the average worker and can operate 24 hours a day. Deloitte had previously predicted that around three million jobs would be lost due to the rise of robotisation. Logistics jobs, in particular, are said to be at risk.
