The minimum wage for foreign drivers driving through Germany has been suspended. This is reported by several German media outlets. The minimum wage of 8.50 per hour was initially going to apply to drivers who were just passing through.

Countries like Poland and the Czech Republic tried to put a stop to this as they feared for their competitive position. There was also criticism from the Netherlands. Transport companies would be strictly checked on their administration and entrepreneurs feared the amount of work this would create. It looks as if the German government has listened to these objections. However, foreign entrepreneurs doing business ín Germany will not escape the new rule. In fact, the minimum wage will simply apply to trucks loaded and unloaded in Germany.
