Fashion chain Primark has started construction of a distribution centre covering as much as nine hectares. The mega distribution centre is being built near Roosendaal and will supply stores in the Benelux and northern France from 2016.
Logistics Capital Partners (LCP) is responsible for the development of the building, which will be located at logistics business park Borchwerf II in Oud Gastel near Roosendaal. With the mega DC, Primark will create around 400 additional jobs. Construction will cost some 26 million euros.
The building itself initially covers almost six hectares, will be 20 metres high and will have a capacity of more than 1 million cubic metres. Once this section stands, Primark may build another three hectares, again with a height of twenty metres. This extra height will allow some 40 per cent extra stock to be stored per square metre.
According to LCP, the building will feature the latest construction techniques and meet the strictest insulation standards. Above the loading and unloading area, at the front of the building, there will be three layers of shelving systems for hanging garments.
Fashion valley West Brabant
Several fashion retailers have settled in West-Brabant in recent years. The region is therefore increasingly profiling itself as the 'fashion valley' of the low countries. Not surprisingly, as the region's business park is located on a major transport artery to the rest of Europe, exactly between Rotterdam and Antwerp.
