The third quarter was a good one for logistics companies in the Netherlands. Advocacy group Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN) recently came out with the latest figures in its business survey for the third quarter of 2015, showing that 75% of companies made a profit.
Report from TLN positive
Every three months, TLN releases a new business cycle report, which is largely based on the business cycle survey completed by the organisation's members. The results give a good insight into the mood of companies in transport and logistics with entrepreneurs telling more about activity, cost and freight rates, turnover and profits. Transport en Logisitiek Nederland writes in its third-quarter report, "We see that the recovery, which started at the end of 2014, is still continuing. Both activity and turnover remain at a high level." However, the organisation still keeps a lid on this when it comes to prices in the current market. "Despite the still ailing prices, almost three quarters of transport companies and logistics service providers ended the quarter profitably." The good figures for the logistics industry in the Netherlands seem to have definitely pulled itself out of the bad and lean years and are looking to the future with great confidence. "Courier companies, distribution companies and transporters of general cargo international and refrigerated transport are very positive."
Growth good for employment
The good quarterly figures also mean that employment has grown. Since spring 2011, the vacancy rate was not as high as it is now. For every 100 jobs, there are currently two vacancies. In particular, drivers, planners and crane operators are finding it easier to find work in the logistics and transport sector. Cooperating foremen are also increasingly in demand due to the growth of logistics companies in the Netherlands.
