In a fire letter to the prime minister, 24 organisations call on the government to invest in mobility. According to the parties, money is needed to improve transport by road, rail, water and air. Moreover, investments should be made in more connections, better traffic flow and more comfort on roads and cycle paths.

With the economy picking up, the parties say it is important to invest in road, aviation, rail, cycling and water infrastructure. "There have been heavy cuts in building more capacity on the road network in recent years. As a result, important projects have been scrapped or shelved. Now that the economy is picking up, other choices are pressing," the organisations said.

The letter identifies 11 key bottlenecks. Among other things, the parties call for improving port access, adjusting bridge heights and tackling bottlenecks on motorways. "The Netherlands needs a new accessibility boost beyond the current programming," the letter reads. "The mobility of the Netherlands has increased exponentially in the past year, making additional investments necessary and profitable, also according to the CPB. Freeing up 10 billion euros by extending the infrastructure fund by two years is not enough, given the current development."

The fire letter was drafted by 24 parties, including shippers' organisation EVO, the ANWB, Fenedex, TLN and Schiphol Airport. Read the full letter to the prime minister here.
