Property developer DHG (David Hart Group) is to develop several logistics distribution centres at the Noordland business park in Bergen op Zoom. The company has bought an eight-hectare plot for this purpose. Construction of the first distribution centre with a size of 20 thousand square metres is due to start this year.

DHG is reportedly already in talks with a potential end-user about renting the first distribution centre. The various logistics centres are expected to create some 250 to 300 jobs in Bergen op Zoom.

DHG says it chose Bergen op Zoom as a logistics location because of its strategic location between the ports of Rotterdan and Antwerp and on the Scheldt Rhine Canal. "Here, we have access to excellent multimodal facilities such as an inland port, 2 container terminals, a newly to be developed outbound terminal, a rail connection, not to mention the two major highways A4 and A58. The attractive labour market also played an important role in our choice," said commercial director Willem Slager.

The commercial director foresees additional opportunities in the future when the Scheldt-Rhine Canal will have a direct connection to the Seine Canal. This would give Bergen op Zoom a direct connection with Ghent, Lille, Paris and even Le Havre. "This development will put Bergen op Zoom firmly on the map in a nautical sense," he says.
