HEMA is having a new distribution centre built in Nieuwegein. The building will have an area of 34 thousand square metres and should support the retailer in international growth.
The distribution centre to be built is located at Het Klooster business park, on the A27 motorway. This is close to HEMA's current distribution centre in Utrecht. Bas van der Kwaak, Real Estate Manager at HEMA, explains: "HEMA has the ambition to grow (internationally), which requires a new distribution centre. The new location at 't Klooster in Nieuwegein is close to our current distribution centre in Utrecht and is therefore a good match logistically."
Prologis takes care of construction
Prologis, which is handling the construction of the distribution centre, purchased a 5.7-hectare plot from the municipality of Nieuwegein. It will start construction work as early as this quarter, with completion scheduled for March 2020.
BREAAM Very Good
The built-to-suit distribution centre has already been awarded the BREEAM 'Very Good' certificate for its sustainability performance. The building will be fitted with LED lighting and the roof will be fitted with solar panels.
