The construction of Inditex's XXL distribution centre is on schedule. The logistics site in Lelystad has successfully passed a number of tests and is now partially in use. Next year, the DC should be fully operational.
So reports the parent company of Zara, Pull&Bear and and Bershka when presenting its financial results. The retailer is spending 100 million euros to build the DC, which will have an area of 170 thousand square metres.
According to Inditex, which posted a 10 per cent profit in the first half of 2018, construction is well underway and the first tests have been successful. Already, the distribution centre can be partially used, putting construction on schedule, the retailer said, with the DC fully operational from next year.
The logistics site in Lelystad is Inditex's first distribution centre outside its home country Spain. The fashion chain wants to expand in Europe and a new, central DC should facilitate this growth. The retailer is building the complex at Lelystad Airport Businesspark (LAB), adjacent to the airport. The logistics operations will create at least four hundred jobs.
