A 66,000-square-metre distribution centre will rise in Alblasserdam within two years. Real estate company Goodman has reached an agreement in principle with the municipality for construction of the XXL DC.
The building will be located on the Nieuwland Parc industrial estate in Alblasserdam, right next to the container terminal of the Port of Rotterdam Authority and one kilometre from the A15 motorway. It involves the redevelopment of an existing industrial site, a so-called brownfield, which, according to the Algemeen Dagblad, is virtually undeveloped except for a few containers.
The distribution centre will be divided into six different units starting from 9,600 square metres, which can be rented separately. Goodman has not yet found any companies willing to locate in Alblasserdam.
Goodman claims that the arrival of the logistics site will create hundreds of jobs in the region. Construction of the distribution centre is expected to be completed around 2021.
