Picnic is renting a 17,000-square-metre warehouse in Utrecht. The online supermarket is expanding its distribution network as the online grocery market has taken off.

Picnic is renting the building in the Lage Weide business park from real estate investor Clarion Gramercy. The app-only supermarket's fulfilment centre has a clear height of 12.2 metres, a load capacity of 50 kN per square metre, LED lighting and sustainability certification Breaam Very Good.

"This latest addition to our distribution network will help facilitate the growth of our business," says co-founder Michiel Muller. "Because of its location and quality, the warehouse is ideally suited to support our growing European footprint."

Picnic serves around 100,000 households. The supermarket was three times busier than normal during the corona crisis. That's why the planned distribution centre in Apeldoorn was accelerated. The opening scheduled for December was pushed back to May.
