Coop Supermarkten has closed 2020 with the commissioning of a new e-fulfilment centre in Almere. The supermarket chain used to send online grocery orders from its shops, but is now going to organise that centrally as well.

The first orders left from Damsluisweg in Almere at the end of December, writes E-commerce Manager Jop van Sommeren on LinkedIn. Coop bought the premises in September together with subsidiary Telesuper, which specialises in online groceries.

Coop previously operated through the shop pick model. So now it is adding central fulfilment to that. From Almere, online groceries will be delivered directly to customers' homes. It says the new premises will enable Coop and Telesuper to further professionalise, expand the range and broaden delivery times.
