NS has won the Industry Solutions Award for the best iot solution in the 'smart buildings and smart cities' category. Utrecht Centraal station's digital twin scored highly at the IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona.

The digital copy of reality was developed together with it-partner Amis. This subsidiary of Conclusion took care of unlocking the telemetry data.

In this 3d model, real-time current information from digital assets such as lifts, escalators and lora sensors comes into the station. This allows station managers to immediately see what is happening at the station and to intervene when necessary. They no longer have to monitor all kinds of sensors via separate dashboards. Everything is in one system.

Extensive analyses and predictions are also possible with the digital twin. Faulty equipment becomes immediately visible. In addition, it is possible to simulate the impact of failure via various scenarios. NS thus improves safety, prevents breakdowns and increases passenger comfort.

According to Jean Keultjes, digital lead of NS Stations IT, maintenance on lifts and escalators can now be planned more effectively. 'The energy consumption of the equipment can also be reduced,' adds Robbrecht van Amerongen, head of iot at Amis.

IoT World attracted 15,500 visitors this year.
