The Port of Rotterdam will test Seagull Surveillance to record movements on and around the water using a fully automated logbook. The aim of the pilot is to find out whether this digital maritime inspector from BrainCreators will enable the port to respond faster to illegal activities.

Seagull Surveillance's automated logbook documents all movements, including images of the detections, to facilitate detection operations. Moreover, the system generates configurable alarm notifications when specific sightings occur, so that attention is quickly focused on a particular spot and an adequate response can follow. Seagull Surveillance recognises vessel types, including those not equipped with AIS (Automatic Identification System).

The software can be linked to existing cameras and integrated with existing video surveillance systems. In the coming months, the port authority will implement Seagull Surveillance as a pilot on a limited number of cameras. The test should also reveal where the potential of geofencing (virtual demarcation or virtual fence) lies to enhance maritime security in the port. The port should then be able to define a virtual perimeter that can be monitored with Seagull Surveillance.
