Starship Technologies' delivery robots now have 100,000 autonomous deliveries to their name. The robot manufacturer announced this after it received a $40 million capital injection in an investment round.

Starship Technologies' robots have a range of up to five kilometres and are designed to deliver orders within half an hour. They deliver autonomously, but are monitored by humans from control centres.

550,000 kilometres

The robots have been on the scene since 2016, both in the US and Europe. In recent years, they covered more than 550,000 kilometres, crossed four million streets and delivered more than 6,000 pizzas, 32,000 litres of milk and 15,000 bananas, according to Startship Technologies.

100 university campuses

Startship Robotics has since raised $85 million (€77 million) in investment, which includes the $40 million from its most recent investment round. With the money, the robot manufacturer plans to expand to 100 university campuses worldwide over the next two years. "We want to offer our service to more than a million students," said Lex Bayer, CEO of Starship Technologies. "A whole generation of students is growing up in a world where they expect delivery from a robot after a few taps on their smartphone. The reception of our service on both campuses and in neighbourhoods has been phenomenal."
