From 3 to 5 November, App on the Road will be exhibiting at ICT&Logistiek at the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. Founder Oscar van Wagtendonk will be demonstrating how transport companies can make their fleet management simpler, more organised and largely paperless.
With a solution developed specifically for drivers and fleet managers, App on the Road brings together the practicalities of the workplace and the back office in a single, user-friendly platform. During the trade fair, visitors will get a live insight into how inspections, damage reports and communication take place instantly and without any confusion.
In the interview below, Oscar talks more about the innovation behind the platform, the challenges facing the sector and what visitors can expect at the stand.
1. Could you briefly introduce yourself and your company?
My name is Oscar van Wagtendonk, founder of App on the Road. We are developing a practical app for drivers and fleet managers. With our solution, transport companies can manage their fleets in a largely paperless and organised manner.
App on the Road was developed in response to real-world needs. We recognise that drivers, planners and fleet managers have to deal with inspections, damage, faults and a great deal of disjointed communication on a daily basis. That is why we have built a solution designed above all to be easy to use, specifically for the people who work with it every day.
2. What is the innovation you are showcasing at ICT&Logistiek, and what makes it unique?
At the trade fair, we’ll be showcasing our entire platform. This consists of a simple driver app and an Operations Dashboard for the back office.
Using the app, a driver can, amongst other things, carry out a daily inspection, report damage, notify the fleet manager of a fault and communicate with them. The fleet manager can see this information immediately on the dashboard, including photos and explanations.
What makes our solution so effective is that the app has been specially developed for drivers. The app is available in more than ten languages, so every driver can work in their own language. This makes it very easy to get started.
The implementation has also been kept practical. No lengthy IT process is required, and there are no per-user licences. Companies can get started quickly for a fixed monthly fee.
3. Which market trends or challenges prompted this development?
In the transport and logistics sector, paper, individual WhatsApp messages, phone calls and Excel spreadsheets are still widely used. This often works fine as long as operations remain small-scale, but with a larger fleet, it’s easy to lose track of things.
In addition, vehicle fleets are becoming increasingly international. Drivers do not always speak the same language, whilst requirements relating to inspections, claims handling, safety and traceability are actually on the rise.
We therefore wanted to build a single, practical system in which drivers can easily report any issues and fleet managers immediately have the right information to take action.

4. How does your solution help to improve processes or business operations?
Above all, App on the Road brings peace of mind and clarity to day-to-day operations.
Reports are sent directly from the driver to the dashboard. This means information no longer needs to be retyped from paper or individual messages. It is also immediately clear what the issue is, which vehicle is affected and which photos or comments relate to it.
For the workshop and planning department, this means they can determine more quickly what needs to be done. A fault or damage is not discussed until later, but is immediately logged in the correct place. This prevents misunderstandings and makes follow-up easier.
The app also helps with safety and compliance. Inspections are recorded digitally for each vehicle type, with a full history. This makes everything easier to trace, and companies are less reliant on loose forms or notes.
5. What is your vision for the future of the sector?
We believe that technology should, above all, remain practical. Software should make work easier, not more complicated.
The future of transport is becoming increasingly digital and connected. Drivers, vehicles and back-office staff must be able to work together effectively within a single, clear process. Integrations with other systems, such as on-board computers, maintenance software, ERP and planning systems, are also becoming increasingly important in this context.
But ultimately, it’s not just about technology. A solution only really works if the people on the shop floor are willing to use it. That’s why software must be simple, intuitive and available in the user’s language.
6. What can visitors expect when they visit your stand?
Visitors can experience for themselves how App on the Road works. We’ll demonstrate the app on a real device and show exactly what happens in the Operations Dashboard.
You can carry out an inspection yourself, report damage or notify the back office of a fault, complete with photos. At the same time, you can see how this report is received by the back office.
We’ll also be demonstrating how the app works in different languages and how the chat function helps to streamline communication with drivers. No long presentation – just see and try out how it works in practice.
7. Why should visitors definitely not miss your stand?
Because in just a few minutes you’ll see how to gain better control of your fleet, without it having to be complicated.
We are keen to work with visitors to understand their specific circumstances. Which processes are currently time-consuming? Where do misunderstandings arise? And which aspects could be streamlined?
Whether you manage a small fleet or an international one, you’ll quickly get a clear idea of what App on the Road can do for you. And you’ll be speaking directly to the people who are building the platform themselves.
