The continuing demand for mega-halls is causing more and more distribution centres to be added in the Netherlands. According to research by real estate consultant Jones Lang LaSalle, the number of square metres of available logistics real estate increased by 3 million since 2008. In fact, half a million square metres would be added this year.
This is mainly due to the growing demand for distribution centres with an area of 40,000 square metres or more. Case in point is Action, which placed a 58,000-square-metre DC in Echt last year. Brand Loyalty came next with a 45,000 sq m DC in Venlo.
Investors invested €1.1 billion in logistics real estate in 2014. An increase of no less than 39 per cent compared to a year earlier. Largest buyers of the real estate were ProLogis, Delin and Warehouse the peacock.
