Aldi is most likely behind the 15-20 million euro 'monster deal' in Deventer. The discounter wants to place a distribution centre along the A1 motorway. The current DCs in Groenlo and Ommen will therefore close their doors.
This is what Omroep Gelderland writes on the basis of sources within Aldi. Staff in the Gelderland municipality of Groenlo were reportedly informed by Aldi. The supermarket chain has not yet confirmed the news.
The current logistics sites in Groenlo and Ommen will be merged at the end of 2021 into a yet-to-be-built XXL distribution centre in Deventer, along the A1 motorway, according to Omgroep Gelderland. It was recently announced that the municipality of Deventer has sold a 13-hectare plot to an as yet unknown player. The permit application for the new building talks about a building with more than eighty truck loading stations, a distribution hall, a freezer and cold store and office space. This would indicate a supermarket chain, and news of the closure of the distribution centre in Groenlo would seem to confirm this.
According to councillor Marieke Frank of the municipality of Oost Gelre, of which Groenlo is a part, Aldi has announced internally that all staff from the current DC can move with them to Deventer. Incidentally, the municipal council has not yet received final confirmation from Aldi.
