Amazon is opening parcel vaults at several locations in Germany, with which the online shop aims to strengthen its position as a logistics party in the country.
The parcel lockers will allow consumers to have their orders delivered there and pick them up along the way, at their convenience. A total of 180 lockers will be installed, with which the company aims to improve its logistics position in the country.
In Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Ausberg and several smaller cities in the Ruhr region, Amazon is spreading its tentacles. You could call it competitive with DHL only in terms of location: the market leader in Germany has some 3,000 such locations in the country.
Advertising revenue
To get a better grip on the market, Amazon is also calling on location owners to come forward, with revenue sharing from possible advertising revenue in prospect. Typical locations for such delivery points include petrol stations, office buildings, supermarkets and universities. The requirement is that there is a lot of traffic passing by, people are always present and the jobs are easily accessible to motorists.
