US parcel delivery company Amazon has recently been experimenting with the delivery of parcels by newspaper carriers. The company did this in the US city of Chicago by partnering with publisher Tribune Publishing. Amazon gave the newspaper deliverers some parcels that they could deliver during their route.

Expansion is possible
According to US newspaper The Wall Street Journal, the experiment, which lasted about two weeks, went well and the mail-order company is seriously considering expanding the experiment. The collaboration has a big advantage for Amazon. The trucks, which make their daily rounds to deliver the newspapers, reach almost all parts of the city. This allows Amazon to deliver parcels to businesses and individuals easily and cheaply. Using existing routes will drastically reduce transport costs.

Not the first experiment
It is not the first experiment in the field of delivery for Amazon. Earlier, the etail giant tried delivery by yellow taxis and collaborated with Uber. It also deploys private individuals in delivering parcels. These delivery drivers drive their own vehicle and deliver orders. The company has plans to expand the experiment to include pizza delivery drivers and trucks delivering flowers.

Saving costs
The reason why Amazon keeps trying new ways of delivery is the increased costs. Transport costs rose 28 per cent in the first six months compared to the first two quarters in 2015 to 4.6 billion US Dollars.
