Bakker Barendrecht is building a 30,000-square-metre distribution centre in Ridderkerk. From the new building, thefruit and vegetable company aims to serve partners such as Albert Heijn and Koninklijke Vezet better. To this end, it is improving its storage and packaging processes, among other things.
Bakker Barendrecht has been working with Albert Heijn for sixty years. Together, they fill some five million plates every day, the companies write in a press release. Albert Heijn will focus on fresh produce in the coming years and Bakker Barendrecht's new distribution centre should support the supermarket chain in this.
The site at Dutch Fresh Port business park is being developed by Somerset Capital Partner. The parties are focusing on high-tech solutions and aiming for sustainability certification BREEAM-NL Excellent during construction. The roof of the distribution centre will be completely covered with solar panels. Measures will also be taken to reduce energy and water consumption.
The building is expected to be completed in mid-2020.
