Broekman Logistics inaugurated its hypermodern distribution centre in Venlo on Tuesday. The site covers an area of 65,000 square metres and is specially equipped for the storage of dangerous goods.
Broekman Logistics will use the logistics campus in Venlo for storage, logistics and assembly activities of various products, including hazardous (ADR) goods. The total warehouse area is 53,000 square metres, half of which will be used for ADR-classified products. In addition, more than 10,000 square metres of mezzanine floors and 2,500 square metres of office space are available.
Safety measures
The building, built by Heylen warehouses, meets strict safety standards for the storage of dangerous goods. "These measures are necessary to guarantee the safety of people, goods and the environment," says Ralph Caspanni, ceo of Heylen Warehouses.
For example, the floors are liquid-proof and the warehouse has special gates with a liquid barrier to stop leakage into the environment. There are also two extinguishing systems, one water-based and one gas-based, as some products should not come into contact with water. The warehouse is compartmentalised, so that in case of calamities, goods in other compartments remain undamaged.
'Triple-AAA location'
Broekman Logistics chose Venlo partly because of the presence of a barge terminal, rail terminals and the A67 and A73 motorways. "This triple-AAA visibility location is excellently located," said Willem Jan van Amersfoort, Managing Director Warehousing & Distribution. "The expansion of warehouse capacity in Venlo is part of Broekman Logistics' growth strategy." The logistics provider uses logistics hotspots in the Benelux to easily serve the European market. The property on Grubbenvorsterweg is in line with that strategy.
In time, the distribution centre should provide the region with some 300 jobs.
